Crabs shut out B52s 9-0 in win

Crabs starting pitcher Zach Wallace goes seven innings for win

ARCATA — The Humboldt Crabs defeated Humboldt B52s 9-0 on Wednesday night in front of 748 fans as three Crabs pitchers combined to throw the shutout. Johnathan Stroman struck out David Ortiz to finish off the game.

The Crabs secured the victory thanks to five runs in the seventh inning. The rally was led by home runs by Kellen Strahm and Ramon Enriquez.

The Crabs got things moving in the first inning. Bronson Grubbs doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The Crabs put up five runs in the seventh inning. Humboldt’s offense in the inning was led by Strahm and Enriquez, who each had RBIs in the inning.

San Jose left hander and Crabs weekday starter Zach Wallace went seven innings, allowing zero runs on six hits and striking out six. Wallace is 3-1 on the summer.

Stroman and Justin Berry entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Tommy Gale took the loss for the B52s. He went six and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out five.

The Crabs smacked two home runs on the day. Enriquez went deep in the seventh inning. Strahm went yard in the seventh inning.

The Crabs collected 11 hits on the day. Grubbs, Strahm, Chase Larsen, and Johnny Mendoza all managed multiple hits. Mendoza, Larsen, Strahm, and Grubbs each collected two hits to lead the Crabs. The B52s tallied seven hits. Morris and Logan Hall all collected multiple hits for the B52s.

The Crabs was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Mendoza made the most plays with ten. Humboldt also tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Grubbs led the way with two.

The Crabs and B52s will square off again on July 31 and August 1 at the Arcata ballpark.
