Ever wanted to step into the batter's box at the Arcata Ballpark? The Humboldt Crabs have teamed up with Big Pete's Pizzeria to introduce an exciting new event — a Home Run Derby for fans, with prizes including 2011 tickets and autographed Crabs bats and balls.
On Wednesday, July 28, there will be a signup table at the ballpark. The Home Run Derby is limited to the first 20 qualified contestants aged 18 or over, and then entrance fee is $20. (Sorry, current Crabs and Steelheads players are not eligible.) Contestants will participate in a preliminary round this Sunday, Aug. 1 after the Crabs' game against the Nevada Bighorns, and go up against "Iron Mike," a.k.a. our pitching machine. Each contestant will get 10 hacks. The top three hitters will come back on the final day of the WCL Tri-State Tournament, Saturday, Aug. 7
The winner will receive a 2011 Season Pass; an autographed special edition Crabs Baseball Bat and a special edition 2010 WCL Tri-State League Tournament shirt. First runner-up receives a 2011 10-ticket strip and an autographed special edition Crabs Baseball, and the second runner-up gets an autographed special edition Crabs Baseball.
Big thanks to Pete Ciotti and Big Pete's Pizzeria for making this event possible!
