Humboldt loses late after 14 innings and bases loaded, lose 5-4

ARCATA — Sunday's game against Pacific Union Financial Capitalists was a heartbreaker for Humboldt Crabs, as they lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat. The game was tied at four with the Puff Caps batting in the top of the fourteenth when Jake McClean singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. The Crabs loaded the bases in the bottom of the 14th. Crabs outfielder Otis Statum, went to a full count, and then struke out looking to end the four-hour contest.
Diego Barrera took the win for Puff Caps. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Brandon Dieter, Tyler Smith, and Chase Watkins all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
Relief pitcher Johnathan Stroman took the loss for the Crabs. He allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out five.
The Crabs got things started in the first inning when infielder Kokko Figueiredo grounded into a double play, but still managed to score one run.
Sam Stoutenborough started the game for Puff Caps. He surrendered three runs on five hits over four innings, striking out four.
Andrew Najeeb-Brush started the game for the Crabs. He went six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out 13
Humboldt saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Bronson Grubbs and Jackson Kritch each racked up multiple hits for the Crabs. Kritch and Grubbs all had three hits to lead Humboldt.
The Puff Caps totaled 14 hits. Max Goldberg, Tyler Casagrande, Ryan Holgate, and Tanner Carlson all managed multiple hits for Puff Caps. Goldberg went 4-for-6 at the plate to lead Puff Caps in hits. The Puff Caps stole four bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Casagrande led the way with two.
Crabs struggle to find groove against Puf Caps, lose 11-5

ARCATA —The Humboldt Crabs had trouble keeping up with Pacific Union Financial Capitalists in an 11-5 loss on Saturday at the Arcata Ball Park during the Crabs Alumni and Crabs player parents weekend.
The Crabs got things moving in the first inning. McCarthy Tatum's sac fly scored one run for Humboldt.
The Puf Caps pulled away for good with six runs in the third inning. In the third Austin Wells singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, Jose Gonzalez singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Brandon Dieter's sac fly scored one run for Puf Caps, Tyler Casagrande singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs for the Puf Caps.
The Crabs tallied three runs in the second inning. Kellen Strahm and Bronson Grubbs powered the big inning with RBIs.
Willie Weiss took the win for Puf Caps. He surrendered five runs on five hits over three and a third innings, striking out two. Cody Jensen threw five and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Jared Milch took the loss for Humboldt. He went three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one.
The Puf Caps tallied two home runs on the day. Casagrande had a homer in the ninth inning. Jackson Cobb had a dinger in the eighth inning.
Grubbs went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead the Crabs in hits.
The Puf Caps collected 13 hits on the day. Wells, Casagrande, Grant Burton, and Gonzalez each had multiple hits for the Puf Caps. Wells led the Puf Caps with three hits in six at bats.
Two Crabs pitchers combine to shutout the Puf Caps, win 8-0

ARCATA — The Humboldt Crabs defeated Pacific Union Financial Capitalists 8-0 on Friday at the Arcata Ball Park as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ryan Sullivan induced a fly out from Tyler Casagrande to finish off the game.
the Crabs got on the board in the first inning. Kokko Figueiredo drove in one when he doubled.
The Crabs put up four runs in the second inning. Johnny Mendoza, Wesley Ghan-Gibson, and McCarthy Tatum all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
A single by Kyle Velasquez in the second inning was a positive for the Puf Caps.
Zach Wallace was credited with the victory for the Crabs. He allowed five hits and zero runs over eight innings, striking out ten and walking zero. Sullivan threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Alex Williams took the loss for Puf Caps. He allowed nine hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven.
The Crabs racked up 17 hits on the day. Connor Blair, Mendoza, Kellen Strahm, Ramon Enriquez, Figueiredo, and Jackson Kritch all managed multiple hits for Humboldt. Blair went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Crabs in hits. Humboldt didn't commit a single error in the field. Mendoza had the most chances in the field with 11.
The Puf Caps totaled six hits. Ryan Holgate and Max Goldberg each racked up multiple hits for the Capitalists. The Capitalists was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Austin Wells had the most chances in the field with 11.
