ARCATA — Humboldt Crabs defeated Valley Bears 11-0 on Saturday in front of a 684 crowd, as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ryan Sullivan struck out Conner Martin to finish off the game.
Humboldt Crabs got things started in the first inning. Humboldt Crabs scored one run when McCarthy Tatum singled.
Humboldt Crabs notched four runs in the second inning. Humboldt Crabs's offense in the inning came from a sacrifice fly by Bronson Grubbs, an error on a ball put in play by Chase Larsen, and a double by Otis Statum.
A single by Elijah Holguin in the first inning was a positive for Valley Bears.
Jared Milch earned the victory on the mound for Humboldt Crabs. He lasted five innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking zero. Kenton Carruthersand Sullivan entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Cody Fierro took the loss for Valley Bears. He went three and a third innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out two.
Humboldt Crabs scattered 14 hits in the game. Kokko Figueiredo, Grubbs, Statum, and Tatum each managed multiple hits for Humboldt Crabs. Figueiredo went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Humboldt Crabs in hits. Humboldt Crabs didn't commit a single error in the field. Ramon Enriquez had the most chances in the field with 16.
Holguin led Valley Bears with two hits in four at bats.
