Steve Detwiler, who played for the Crabs in 2007 and 2009, went 4-for-4 in 2008 CWS championship game for Fresno State
ARCATA (July 4, 2010) — As the College World Series said goodbye to Omaha's fabled Rosenblatt Stadium this year, Sports Illustrated put together the top eight moments in the stadium's history, and two-time Humboldt Crab Steve Detwiler topped the list.
Detwiler shattered CWS records as he almost singlehandedly — in a literal sense — propelled Fresno State to a most improbably 2008 NCAA title. Playing most of the season with a torn tendon in his left thumb, he went 4-for-4 with two homers and all six of the Bulldogs' RBIs against Georgia in the title game, setting College World Series records for RBIs and hits along the way.
Detwiler played for the Crabs in 2007 and 2009. During his time in Arcata, he batted .277 with 3 home runs and 40 RBIs, and he brought a passion for the game every time he took the field. The Crabs congratulate Detwiler on this great honor!
