Crabs Manager Tyson Fisher, coach David Flores, along with other members of the Humboldt Crabs hung out with the Junior Giants for a day

ARCATA (July 2014) — Youth from the Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods Junior Giants program took to the field on July 12 last year with players from the Humboldt Crabs to practice their baseball skills and learn valuable lessons in teamwork, confidence, leadership, integrity and character during Teamwork Week.

Crabs manager Tyson Fisher gave a speech about the importance of teamwork. Fisher told the young players that while he doesn’t miss playing the game, he does miss the bonds and relationships he developed with other players he played with on his college team in South Dakota and with the Humboldt Crabs.

The Junior Giants program is a free noncompetitive summer baseball program for boys and girls. The program combines the fundamentals of youth baseball with lessons in education, health and bullying prevention. Teamwork Week is one of the seven themes that the players focus on during the summer. Over the course of the eight weeks they not only develop their baseball game, but also work on important character skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
