Scott Eskra memorial: Crabs family honors one of their own

In the spring of 1995, Scott Eskra made his debut with the Humboldt Crabs on June 11th and smacked two home runs. According to the information in the 1996 Crabs program, with results from the previous year, Eskra batted .411 (2nd on the team) and led the club in home runs (9), RBI’s (39) and slugging percentage (.729).

Later in the year he was also drafted by the Florida Marlins who retained his rights even though he remained in school.  Scott then transferred to Lassen College where he played in the spring of 1996.

Eskra was recruited by the University of Mississippi and enrolled in school in the fall of 1996 so he could play during the 1997 season. He had a stellar year for the “Ole Miss” Rebels as he went on a hitting tear and was 2nd on the team with a .350 average. He did not play in 1998 but returned to Humboldt County and, in 1999, played with the Humboldt All-Stars including several games against the Crabs. In 2015 Scott Eskra was inducted into the Humboldt Crabs Hall of Fame.  – Jack Nash
