ARCATA (June 27) — The constant threat of rain didn't put a damper on things when the Marysville Gold Sox rolled into Arcata for a two-game series. A big fourth inning and a clutch hit in the ninth gave the Gold Sox a 6-5 win on Tuesday to snap the Crabs' nine-game winning streak, but Humboldt rebounded in a big way on Wednesday, winning 8-2.

In the opener, the Crabs scored first, plating two in the third. But while pitcher Ruben Rios had breezed through the lineup the first time through, the Sox got to him in the fourth. Tommy Lininger's one-out single was the fist of five straight hits against Rios, the last three being doubles. When the dust (mud?) settled, the visitors held a 5-2 lead.

Trailing 5-3 entering the eighth, the Crabs gave their fans a glimmer of hope, as Cullen Hendrickson's second homer of the year tied things at 5. But the glimmer faded in the ninth, but Brad Gerig's two-out single drove in Javier Ledford with what proved to be the difference-maker.

The Crabs got their revenge, however, as they rode the hot bats of Hendrickson and Kyle Moses to victory. Moses, the team's leading hitter with a .390 average, got things started by doubling in two runs as the Crabs went up 3-0 in the second. Then, leading 4-2 in the sixth, the two had back-to-back run-scoring hits, and both would later score in a four-run inning that effectively sealed the deal.

Leland Tilley earned the win with five solid innings in his first start of the season. Jacob Coats, Toby Woods and Steven Thompson combined for four scoreless innings from the bullpen.

This weekend the Redding Colt .45s take a respite from the head as they head over highway 299 to Humboldt. Friday night is Cowboy Night sponsored by KRED 92.3 FM Big Red Country. Sunday is Camo Day, Socks for Soldiers, Military Appreciation and Veterans Day, and the Crabs will be wearing camo jerseys!
